Picnicking dates back centuries, and Sacramento's beautiful scenery makes it the perfect destination to enjoy a meal outdoors.
If you would like to have a picnic, the most popular destinations close to our apartments near Sacramento State include:
Nestled where the American River and the Sacramento River meet, Discovery Park is a popular boating destination. It stretches over 300 acres and is the starting point for the Jedediah Smith Memorial Bike Trail which leads to Folsom Lake. Discovery Park is also a premier picnic destination. Visitors can reserve a shelter or enjoy an up-close view of the boating action.
Bordered by the American River, Ancil Hoffman is where visitors can walk among reconstructed Maidu Indian homes. The park spans nearly 400 acres, and birds and deer are found along the many trails. Picnickers can spread a blanket and enjoy their fried chicken by the water.
After your meal, play a round of golf on the Ancil Hoffman Golf Course. It was named one of "America's top courses" by Golf Digest and is legendary in the Greater Sacramento area for its design, playability, and pure beauty. The course features tree-lined fairways, five sets of tees, and strategically placed bunkers.
With softball fields, basketball courts, and barbecue pits, it's no wonder that William Land Regional Park is a popular picnic destination. Visitors can also enjoy a jogging path and easy access to the Sacramento Zoo.
The park is probably best known as the home of Sacramento's oldest golf treasure. It opened in 1924, and challenges players of all skill levels. The course features a pro shop and cafe, and also offers private lessons.
